Baked Ziti with SausageA classic casserole with pasta, tomato sauce, chunks of sausage and cheese; Baked Ziti is great for potlucks or family dinners. A touch of cream adds richness to this dish. Yield: 6 Servings
Ingredients1 pound ziti, dried1 pound spicy Italian sausage 1 large jar tomato basil spaghetti sauce, at least 24 ounces 1/4 cup heavy cream 1 1/2 cup mozzarella, shredded 1 cup parmesan cheese, grated
MethodPreheat the oven to 425 degrees. Coat a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray or olive oil and set aside. Bring a large pot of water to a boil, add salt, and boil pasta for 1 minute less than package directions. Drain and place in a large mixing bowl. Meanwhile, cut sausage into 1/4-inch thick slices, (slightly freeze the sausage for easier slicing), brown Italian sausage in a large skillet over medium heat. To the pasta add the spaghetti sauce, heavy cream, sausage, 1/2 cup of mozzarella and 1/2 cup of parmesan cheese and stir to combine. Transfer mixture into the prepared baking dish, and top with remaining parmesan and mozzarella. Bake until cheese is brown in spots and casserole is bubbly, about 20 minutes.
