Crawford Canyon Zinfandel 2007
California
If a winegrower wasn’t familiar with Zinfandel, they might find it frustrating to grow. The bunches ripen unevenly, so in the same bunch of grapes, some berries might seem like they needed more time, some might look perfectly ripe and others might look overripe or even a little like raisins. However, if you add up all of the grapes at different stages of ripeness it makes for complex, delicious wine. The less ripe grapes contribute freshness, while the overripe ones add big, fruity aromas and body.
The Crawford Canyon reveals how that all adds up; full-bodied and rich, it shows lots of red and dark fruit along with notes of pepper and clove. The finish is long and a bit smoky.
In 2008, DeLoach Vineyards was awarded their organic certification by the CCOF (California Certified Organic Famers) makind this bold Zin a "green wine".
