Lustre Syrah 2006
Sonoma Valley, California
Syrah is a flexible grape. In its homeland, the Rhône Valley, it makes a medium-bodied wine with lots of meat and spice aromas, whereas in Australia it makes full-bodied, rich, fruity wines under the pseudonym Shiraz.
The Lustre splits the difference, with the full body and moderate tannins of a ripe Aussie wine but the baking spice, chocolate and smoked sausage aromas more common back in France: the best of both worlds.

I enjoyed this wine very much. Nice balance of spice and fruit with a long finish. Will be ordering some more.
Try the Lustre Syrah with smoked meats like grilled sausages or pork; it also goes well with cheddar or mild sheep’s milk cheeses.
