Moselland Piesporter Goldtropfchen Riesling 2006
Germany
The Mosel River is the most northerly of Germany’s wine regions, so it’s quite cool area; that makes for light-bodied, elegant wines with high acidity which winemakers generally leaven with a slight sweetness. The picturesque village of Piesport lies on the north side of a bend in the river, so its vineyards, of which Goldtröpchen (“golden droplets”) is the most famous, form a natural amphitheater, concentrating the sunlight on the grapevines to develop lots of flavor and complexity in the wines.
The Moselland 2006 has lots of chalky mineral notes, with lemon and lime aromas as well as a touch of tangerine. It’s light-bodied, with a long, clean finish.

Try the Moselland Piesporter Goldtröpchen Riesling with light seafood and fish dishes like crabcakes, smoked trout, or sole. Its gentle sweetness can also help tame the flames of spicy food, so keep it mind the next time you order in Chinese or a curry.
