Lar De Barros Tempranillo-Crianza 2005
Ribera Del Guadiana, Spain
It goes by a number of names in different regions – Tempranillo, Cencibel, Tinta de Toro …but no matter the local name, Tempranillo is Spain’s flagship winegrape. It’s capable of many different expressions - lighter-bodied, fuller, with oak-aging, without and so forth. The Crianza style goes for a moderate amount of time in oak barrels, allowing the grape’s fruit notes to come through touched with a gentle spiciness. In the Lar de Barros that means a mix of red fruits like cherry and plum, but with darker notes of boysenberry and juicy blackberry backing it up, with a touch of clove and pepper to round it out. It’s medium-bodied, with dry, smooth tannins and a velvety finish.

The Lar de Barros Crianza will stand up to beef, but is flexible enough to pair well with pork or even poultry. It also works well with many pastas.
