Spelletich Cellars Bodog Red 2004
Napa Valley, California
There’s a lot to be said for blending, because it allows the character of more than one grape to contribute to the wine. There are some traditional combinations like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc in Bordeaux, but Spelletich Cellars has gone out on a limb in the Bodog Red, bringing together Zinfandel, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. That makes for a great mix of red and darker fruit aromas, plus a touch of licorice and spice. It’s full-bodied and round, with lots of soft tannins and good length on the finish.
