Pilgrim Mencia Roble 2006
Bierzo, Spain
During the past two decades, no country can claim as many fantastic, rediscovered vineyards as Spain. Across the entire Northern half of the country, enterprising winemakers are searching out old, neglected wine regions and bringing them back to life, with startling success. Bierzo is the latest success and even has its own indigenous grape, Mencia. In the Pilgrim, it leans toward slatey minerality and smoke, with well-balanced dark fruit touches. It’s full-bodied, but very fresh, with firm tannins.

Serve the Pilgrim Mencia Roble with roasted meats like pot roast or braised short ribs. Or try it with some Spanish cheese like manchego or cabrales.
