The Casablanca Valley, lying in between the port city of Valparaiso and Santiago, the Chilean capital, enjoys cooling ocean breezes that have made it the nation’s premier area for white wines. Chardonnay rules the roost here and appears in a variety of styles. The Candelaria Gran Reserva Chardonnay shows how the valley’s climate coaxes fruity aromas from the grape, including pear, pineapple and banana; careful winemaking layers those aromas with notes of toast and vanilla, especially on the finish. A bit over medium-bodied, this is smooth, lush wine.
