Summit Lake Zinfandel 2002
Napa Valley, California
In 1971 Bob and Sue Brakesman bought a weed-infested, overgrown wreck of a vineyard on the slopes of Howell Mountain and began to turn it around. It would be seven years before their first vintage, but the care and attention they put into the work showed in the wine, a Zinfandel, which sold out in eight days. That Zinfandel has become their flagship wine. The 2002 Howell Mountain Zinfandel is a rich, heady mixture of dark raspberries, chocolate, spice and pepper. It's full-bodied and its flavors are smooth and balanced.

This wine stands up to beef very well, but could also complement creamy pastas, rich cheeses, or even chocolate.
