In the 1980s, a group of California winemakers started experimenting with growing Rhône Valley grapes; yielding a number of great reds from varieties like Syrah and Grenache. Viognier - the star white grape of the northern Rhône Valley - was, by-and-large, overlooked. Today, though, it offers something new for wine drinkers who are tired of Chardonnay, but like a full-bodied, rounded white (without the butter and vanilla flavors of oak-aging).
The Christine Andrew has lots of peach, apricot and tangerine aromas, complemented by floral touches. While full and soft, it still finishes cleanly. It's light enough to go with appetizers and dinners, without overpowering the food.
