Graeser Simba's Zinfandel 2003
North Coast, California
Richard Graeser has been making wine outside of Calistoga for almost twenty years. As at many wineries, dogs are pretty much part of the staff, and Graeser decided to name his non-Napa wines for some of the winery's "best friends." Pound-mutt Simba recently passed on to doggy heaven, but her memory lives on in her namesake Zinfandel. It has a dark raspberry nose, with touches of spice, black cherries, and a hint of port, despite its moderate alcohol - this is a balanced Zin, not an over-the-top monster. It has just enough tannins to dry out the finish, leaving the wine with a round and pleasant mouthfeel.

Too light-bodied for what I like in a zin.
We bought this as a gift for our son who likes Zinfandel's. This Zinfandel is very dry and not that sweet.

Open up Simba’s Sinful Zinfandel whenever you grill, because burgers, hot dogs, and barbecue all have a friend here. Given the light tannins, it makes a good call with spicy items like Mexican food as well.
